Editorial Guidelines & Ethics
Last Updated: April 19, 2026
At SaaSGrail, our mission is simple: to help makers, founders, and creators find the best software without falling for marketing hype. To do this, we maintain strict editorial standards. We don’t just review software; we “grill” it.
Here are the core principles that guide every review, comparison, and teardown on our site:
1. We Never Accept “Pay-to-Play”
We do not accept payment, sponsorships, or “premium placement” fees from software companies in exchange for a positive review or a higher ranking on our lists. If a tool is listed as #1, it is because it earned that spot through our testing, period.
2. We Buy Our Own Tools
To remain completely objective, we refuse free “reviewer” or “VIP” accounts. We purchase the software with our own money, go through the standard onboarding process, and experience the product exactly as you would as a paying customer.
3. The 14-Day “Grill” Process
We do not write reviews based on reading a company’s landing page. Every featured tool undergoes a rigorous hands-on stress test:
- Real Use Cases: We build actual landing pages, send real email campaigns, and migrate real data.
- Support Testing: We intentionally submit support tickets to evaluate the speed and helpfulness of the customer service team.
- Cancellation Friction: We test how easy (or intentionally difficult) it is to cancel a subscription and export our data.
4. Honest Flaws & Dealbreakers
No software is perfect. Every review on SaaSGrail must include a dedicated section highlighting the tool’s flaws, missing features, and “dealbreakers.” If we can’t find anything bad to say about a tool, we haven’t tested it hard enough.
5. Separation of Affiliate and Editorial
While we use affiliate links to fund our testing (see our Affiliate Disclosure), our editorial team operates independently. Affiliate payouts do not influence our Grill Scores. We regularly recommend free tools or tools that offer zero affiliate commission if they are genuinely the best option for our readers.
6. Corrections & Updates
Software evolves rapidly. A tool that is fantastic today might release a terrible update tomorrow. We actively monitor the tools we recommend and update our reviews quarterly. If we make a factual error in our reporting, we will correct it immediately and add a note to the bottom of the article.
If you spot an error or have questions about our testing process, please reach out via our Contact page.
